This whole White House leak thing is more intriguing to me than any other current national story because there aren't many surprises in store, the main one being that there will be no apologies or explanations from the White House that our classified information is being handled less carefully than a baby relocating a cylinder of Plutonium 234 with a pair of ice tongs.
Bush Promises to Contain Info Leaks with Investigation
After someone in the White house leaked the name of an undercover CIA agent eventually to columnist and CNN talking head Robert Novak, President Bush said he would get to the bottom of this by getting Attorney General John Ashcroft to launch a full investigation into the matter and assured the public that he will make sure the investigation is done in a thorough, objective and fair manner -- by not appointing a special prosecutor.
Wha huh? The Justice Department, which is led by a man that was appointed by the White House, is launching a serious investigation into the operations of the "White House." That's like letting Keith Richards administer his own drug test.
Besides, what's so special about a special prosecutor anyway? Remember Ken Starr, the special, objective prosecutor for the Bill Clinton "Tailgate" scandal? Did he seem like he was fairly judging the information that he found when he discovered that Clinton was having sex with someone other than his wife in the Oval Office and because he lied about it under oath that is considered an impeachable offense? That guy was as slanted as a wedge of cheese.
